Job Title: Head of Safety & Compliance

Reporting to: Technical Director

Overall Purpose of Job:

Reporting directly to the Technical Director, this role will have primary accountability for the Sloane Helicopters’ Safety Management System and the associated oversight necessary to meet the requirements of the Sloane Helicopters’ CAA regulatory procedures and approvals. The role will also drive continuous improvement within safety and compliance, as well as identifying areas of improvement for safety and compliance across the wider business.

Main Responsibilities:

Job Description Summary

  • To maintain an independent safety management system to ensure compliance with all company approvals.
  • To support the Accountable Manger in all liaisons with regulatory authorities and to act as initial point of contact with the Regulator, its Surveyor and Operations Inspectors.
  • To develop and maintain an effective culture of safety and compliance awareness throughout the company.
  • To take overall responsibility and ownership for the development of the Sloane Helicopters’ Safety Management System.
  • To maintain the Safety & Compliance Form 4 accountability for the Sloane Helicopters’ business.
  • To drive the safety and compliance process, and compliance improvements through the Flight Operations, Engineering and Supply Chain teams.
  • To ensure competency assurance for Flight, Engineering and Supply Chain operations and personnel on site.
  • To take ownership of all relevant regulatory audits and interactions with relevant bodies and the effective delivery thereof.
  • The involvement, as required, in relevant UK Safety and Compliance groups.
  • To collaborate in the strategy development for safety and compliance, including monthly reporting of metrics and regulatory performance.
  • To collaborate proactively with internal and external peers, colleagues, and stakeholders to establish strong functional partnerships.
  • To develop and deliver the Safety Management System to meet all regulatory requirements.
  • To provide stewardship and compliance oversight / involvement in:
  • MOR assessment.
  • Processing of non-conformances
  • Company approvals and extensions
  • To review all supporting regulatory requirements, co-ordination of applicable changes to company procedures and submission to appropriate authorities for approval where required.
  • To implement an audit programme that covers all company activities.
  • To carry out all internal and external audits in support of the above programme and management of identified issues to closure.
  • The management of a supplier approval and review system
  • To review, investigate and comment on warranty claims against the company.
  • The control of Engineering and Flight Operations certifying staff approvals.
  • The control of all internally produced procedures and documentation.
  • The co-ordination of and attendance at all audits by external bodies.
  • The compliance with any specific Terms of Reference published to meet regulatory requirements.
  • To provide regular reports to the Accountable Manager on the performance of the SMS.
  • To provide oversight and coordination of the company’s Safety Management System and to chair the company’s Health and Safety committee and OSRB.

People Management:

  • To lead by example and to develop effective teams.
  • To support the team to ensure contractual commitments are met.
  • To manage team in line with company procedures and standards, assisting with recruitment, training, monitoring of performance and carrying out appraisals and, if necessary, instigating first line disciplinary action.

Training & Development:

  • To identify and, with the Technical Director, action the training needs of yourself and your team.
  • To maintain your knowledge of the company’s portfolio of services and procedures.

Relationship Management:

  • To build positive relationships with customers and suppliers and resolve problems.
  • To work closely with all internal teams, promoting good relations and team working.

General:
