Flight Instructor Course (Helicopters)
If you have your Commercial Pilot Licence (H), adding a Flight Instructor Rating can open up new and exciting opportunities for helping others to achieve their own helicopter pilot licence. The Flight Instructor Course (H) is full-time, and lasts for about 4 weeks.
To complete this course an above average standard of helicopter flying and theoretical knowledge is essential.
The 6 week course comprises of classroom learning, role-reversal and teaching technique instruction, including 30 hours flight training, which must include at least 25 hours dual instruction, and up to 5 hours of mutual flying with another flight instructor student.
Along with 125 hours of theoretical knowledge instruction, which must include 40 hours tuition, 78 hours teaching practice and 7 hours progress tests.
The exercises are divided into 3 parts:
- Ground briefing
- Helicopter Flying
- Ground instruction techniques and review of all technical subjects
To qualify for the completion of this course, applicants are required to demonstrate, to a flight examiner, the ability to instruct a student pilot for the issue of a PPL (H). This will include the pre-flight, post flight briefings and theoretical knowledge instruction, along with passing a skill test.
The aim of this course, is to instruct trained helicopter pilots how to teach, and not how to fly.
Not to mention becoming used to flying in the left-hand seat! Though, undoubtedly your standard of flying will naturally improve during the completion of the Flight Instructor Course (H).
