Flight Discovery Day
A Flight Discovery Day is ideal if you have already had a Trial Helicopter Lesson and want to try your hand at more flying, or if you simply want to experience a more involved day of helicopter flying.
The Flight Discovery Day includes two separate flights of an hour each, in either a Robinson R22 helicopter (or Robinson R44 helicopter). The day begins with an introduction to your flight training instructor, in whose expert hands you will be with for the entire day.
Prior to the first flight your instructor will show you round the helicopter, familiarising you with the cockpit layout, and explaining how the various controls and flight systems work.
The first flight will cover all aspects of a forward flight, a demonstration of an autorotation and a short period trying each of the controls. At the end of the flight you will certainly be getting a “feel” of the controls.
After a break, you will be given a detailed briefing by your instructor for the second flight, which will show you how to change the airspeed and the engine power of your helicopter, in order to control the height of the helicopter.
Both flights will be completed with a brief hover exercise.
During the day your instructor will try to give you as much flying experience as possible, whilst ensuring you do not become too overloaded!
As the day draws to a close you will have a sound ideo of what it feels like to fly a helicopter.
