Commercial Pilot Licence (Helicopters)
If you want to fly helicopters as a career, and earning money doing so, you must hold a Commercial Pilot Licence (H), and to do so you must undertake the following (all of which you can do with Sloane Helicopters).
In order to commence the course you must have logged 155 hours of helicopter flying which includes your Private Pilot Licence (H) training and any additional helicopter flying you have done since. This period is known as ‘hour building’ and generally runs hand in hand with the next stage of flight training ground examinations.
The ground exams can be taken either full-time or part-time to suit your circumstances, and may take as little as 6 months to complete. These can be taken through recognised training schools, which we can put you in touch with when the time comes. The flight training ground exams must be passed before you are able to take the Commercial Pilot Licence (H) course.
The Commercial Pilot Licence (H) course comprises of 30 hours dual instruction or 35 hours if you do not hold a night qualification. Within these hours, there are a number of hours flown by sole reference to instruments (some of which may be conducted in our innovative flight training simulator), along with cross country helicopter flying. There are several navigation exercises to prepare you for the CPL (H) skill test, which you will take at the end of your training.
The aim of the CPL (H) course is to train Private Pilot Licence (H) holders, to the level of expertise necessary to fly as a professional pilot.
